Dear Families,

On Saturday April 13^th IS230 brought three amazing teams to the New York City Urban Debate Tournament. To qualify for this event, teams had to have a winning record of two or more wins for the entire season. One of our top teams with Faatiha Aayat, Raisha Tayba, and Radhika Roy made it to the quarterfinals. Raisha Tayba was also awarded top speaker out of all the debaters. Our second team with Syed Rahman, Ryan Shah, and Lamia Anzum made it to the finals. They almost walked away with a win that would have awarded them first place. It has been an amazing year for IS230s Debate Team. They have shown growth, determination, and perseverance throughout the school year.

On Thursday, April 18th (Annex) & Friday, April 19th (Main) we hosted our CRSE Celebration: Inspirational People With Disabilities Presentations & The Kindness Rock Garden. Students from classes 712, 813 and 814 were tasked with conducting their own research in which they spread awareness about an inspirational person with a disability. During lunch periods, select students from 712, 813, and 814 ran the tables and presented their research to their peers. Additionally, we continued our Kindness Rock Garden. We had rocks and markers for students and staff to decorate in order to spread kindness and positivity. All of the rocks will be collected and placed out in front of the school where members of our community can choose a kindness rock to keep, should they need some words of encouragement to brighten their day.

On Friday, April 19^th our Students participated in our latest Climate Action Day during their Science Classes, the topic of the day was "Health, Wellness, and Greenspace". Students led the school-wide initiative by encouraging students and staff to wear green clothing in an effort to raise awareness. In addition, Science teachers explained to students how nature can impact our health and wellness.

Today is the last day to complete the 2024 NYC School Survey. Reminder The 2024 NYC School Survey is officially open. Every year Students, Parent and Teachers fill out the survey. The survey provides valuable information on what we are doing well at IS230 and what we can do to improve. You can fill out a paper version of the survey or you can do it online. Currently we only have 20% of Families who have completed the survey. Thank you to all the families who have already completed it.

A PTA donation letter was sent out to the home with the students. We are currently asking for your help in donating time and/or money. There is no monetary amount and parents are free to donate whatever they are able to do so. You can bring your donations to the main office located in the main building and place them in the PTA donation box or you can make a deposit via our PayPal account. The information for the PayPal account is in the school website.

One of our goals this year is to create more shared experiences for our students at IS230. This month we starting to collect dues for the following field trips and dances:

6^th grade trip to Adventureland. The trip will take place on June 12, 2023 and the cost of the trip is $100. The cost includes charter bus, meal and entrance to the park. Those students who are interested will fill out a permission slip and provide a cash payment of $100. There are 200 spots available. More information will be shared with 6^th grade families.
8^th grade Senior Due deadline was January 5^th. The Senior due is now $130.
8^th grade Senior Trip to Lake Compounce. Collection starts 2/2/24 is $115 only 260 spots available on a first come first serve basis.
